Heartland Marinara Sauce
Yield: 6 cups
1 Cup chopped onion
1 Tablespoon Garlic paste or minced garlic
1 Tablespoon fennel seed
1 Tablespoon dried basil leaves, crushed
2 Teaspoons dried oregano leaves, crushed
6 Cups chopped tomatoes
½ Teaspoon red pepper flakes
In a medium microwave-safe bowl, combine onion, garlic, fennel, basil and oregano; cover. Microwave on high 5 minutes. Transfer to medium saucepan.
Add tomatoes and pepper flakes. Bring to a boil over high heat. Reduce heat to low; simmer 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Place sauce in blender; blend until smooth. Press sauce through a wire mesh sieve; discard solids. Serve sauce immediately or cover and refrigerate until ready to serve. Heat before serving.
