Harold Lebovic - HLS OwnerDid you know that heart disease is the leading cause of death in America?

In the United States alone, approximately 1.5 million people suffer a heart attack every year, with as many as 500,000 of them dying as a result. Out of these 500,000 recorded deaths, 250,000 occur on the way to the hospital! While the statistics are horrifying and certainly eye-opening, there are steps we can all take to help ensure a healthier heart. And, there’s no better time than February, American Heart Month, to share some of these steps with you!

  • Stop smoking.
  • Watch your diet by choosing lean meats and poultry without skin, cutting back on beverages and foods with added sugars, selecting fat free or low-fat dairy products, choosing foods lower in salt, and controlling portion sizes.
  • If you drink alcohol, do so in moderation. This means no more than one drink per day for women and two drinks per day for men.
  • Exercise at least 30 minutes most days of the week.  It doesn’t need to be a vigorous workout.  A brisk walk around the neighborhood is a great way to get started and get your heart pumping.
  • Find a way to minimize your level of stress. Breathing exercises, meditation, or yoga can all help decrease stress level.
  • Maintain a healthy weight.

At The Heartland Spa and Fitness Resort, we are committed to your total well-being and will do everything possible to provide a “heart healthy” experience. During your stay, our staff is available to answer any questions you may have in order to help you achieve a healthier you!

I look forward to welcoming you home to The Heartland.

Yours in health,
Harold Lebovic, President
